Believer it or not, Oregon has one of the highest rates of children at risk for hunger in the nation. School subsidized lunch programs strain to support the more than 29% of children in the state that struggle with hunger. Over half (53%) of students in Oregon (K-12) are eligible for free or reduced price meals at school, and yet school only supports them through one to two meals per school day. That’s more than 11 meals minimum that those kids are at home for–nearly half their meals per week could be missed if funds at home don’t allow for the structured healthy meal option.
